Help me grow!
The Ficus Bonsai with its bright, waxy and robust leaves, striking trunks, in addition to its aerial roots that impart a special character, are native to the tropics. They are surprisingly easy to care for and maintain as long as you follow certain guidelines.
- I flourish in direct morning sunlight, but harsh afternoon sunlight can burn my leaves.
- Cold and harsh climates do not suit me at all.
- My leaves require humidity to remain green and healthy. Frequent misting and placing a humidity tray beneath my pot is greatly beneficial.
- Water me thoroughly and deeply when my top soil gets dry and allow me to catch my breath, before you water me again.
- use a thin training wire and a good wiring technique to train my branches to hold themselves in the desired position.
FAQs
- How do you take care of the fertilizer needs of the plant?
I respond enthusiastically to fertilizing, so ensure that an organic liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength is fed every two weeks in the growing season. In winter, once a month feeding is sufficient. - How do you deal with pests and diseases?
Organic pesticides work well for pests whereas fungicide sprays are effective for fungal growths. - How often do we need to prune this plant?
I respond very well to pruning. This is best done towards the end of spring.
